1.  National Small Business Week: IRS celebrates small business owners and entrepreneurs


In honor of National Small Business Week, which runs from May 4 – 10, the IRS offers valuable resources and insights to help entrepreneurs and small businesses safeguard their companies and effectively manage tax reporting requirements. To support the growth and success of small business owners, the IRS will highlight key tax topics throughout National Small Business Week.

There are a variety of resources available to help current and future small business owners understand the world of tax responsibilities, benefits and filing. The education and online learning products offered on IRS.gov ensure small businesses have the latest tax related information for their enterprise.

2.  IRS reminder: Safeguard important records in case disaster strikes


The month of May kicks off disaster preparation season with National Wildfire Awareness Month and National Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 4 – 10. Check out this news release for tips that may help you and your clients protect personal financial and tax information in preparedness planning. Also visit Ready.gov and FEMA.gov for additional disaster information.

4.  News from the Justice Department’s Tax Division


The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida filed a civil injunction suit against tax return preparer Nia Daniel, seeking to bar her from owning a tax preparation business and preparing tax returns. Daniel is also restricted from assisting or training others in tax return preparation through at least Jan. 27, 2028. In addition, the court ordered Daniel to disgorge $446,000 in ill-gotten gains she received from her return preparation business. Daniel agreed to both the injunction and ordered disgorgement.

5.  Technical Guidance


Revenue Procedure 2025-19 provides the 2026 inflation adjusted amounts for Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) as determined under section 223 of the Internal Revenue Code and the maximum amount that may be made newly available for excepted benefit health reimbursement arrangements (HRAs) provided under section 54.9831-1(c)(3)(viii) of the Pension Excise Tax Regulations.
