John, for my generation, school shooting drills are a part of our reality.
Whenever I walked into a classroom, I felt the constant anxiety that someone might come in and start shooting.
You’d think that schools are supposed to be a safe space for all. And in every developed country besides the United States, they are.
But that’s not the case for my generation. And we can thank the spineless, far right politicians in office for that.
They’re choosing guns and profits over the safety of young people – and it’s only making the gun violence epidemic worse.
So if the far right isn't going to protect our generation, then we will.
That’s why I’m doing my part to fight for our safety – not just in our classrooms, but at concerts, in movie theaters, and all places, because I refuse to accept the gun violence epidemic as normal, John. It’s not.
