Hey, Mike here with a quick note. The momentum to remove confederate symbols from our society is growing. Just yesterday, NASCAR announced they're banning the confederate flag from its races , a major step in the right direction.

By now, the confederate flag doesn't fly at any Mississippi university, at NASCAR events, or in the Marines. It's banned where we think, where we play, and where we fight – yet not where we govern. If NASCAR can do the right thing, so should the government of Mississippi.

It's time to finally remove the confederate symbol from the Mississippi state flag: Add your name alongside mine if you agree. [[link removed]]

Thousands of people gathered across Mississippi this past weekend, demonstrating that people are ready for change. The people of Mississippi are showing that they are ready for a state that represents them — and that includes the Mississippi state flag.

As you may know, the confederate battle emblem that is located in the top left corner of the Mississippi state flag has long been a point of contention for those of us fighting to move our state forward. The flag does little to promote the hospitable and welcoming nature of Mississippi.

Honoring symbols of division and hatred does little to create a Mississippi where ALL feel welcome and have opportunities to thrive. In order to build a new Mississippi where both of those things are possible, we must remove symbols that honor a time when all Mississippians were not valued. [[link removed]]

Mississippi is the last state in the country to have a confederate emblem located on the official state flag, and there is no better time than now to make sure that ends soon.

Across the country, state and local leaders are responding by stepping up and removing confederate monuments, statues, and other relics of division and hatred. This can happen in Mississippi with your help.

Please add your name today and join me in calling on our state and local leaders to remove symbols that honor division and hate from our flag. [[link removed]]

Let’s urge our elected leaders to make the change so we can have a flag and public spaces that represent unity and spark the move toward a new Mississippi.

Thanks for all you do.
