This is urgent, John: Republican politicians just set the stage for a far-right takeover of our Board of Elections, undermining our democratic institutions and potentially threatening the integrity of every election here on out.
Look, the constitutional separation of powers is key to ensuring free and fair elections, where every voter’s voice is heard. Changing oversight of the Board of Elections now is a blatantly political move designed to cement the GOP’s power over our state. A GOP-controlled Board of Elections could even void Justice Allison Riggs’ 2024 election victory and hand her Supreme Court seat to her GOP opponent. Oversight over our elections should be about keeping voting fair and free and ensuring all North Carolinians have access to the ballot box — NOT about scoring political points.
