Protect horses from horrific deaths: End horse slaughter now!

The Triple Crown races begin tomorrow. But as people gather to celebrate the magnificent horses on the track, in the shadow of this spectacle, thousands of horses are suffering an unthinkable fate. Horses who fail to make the spotlight or capture the hearts of cheering fans can find themselves suddenly sold, transported hundreds of miles and butchered for their meat.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Will you take action to protect horses from falling victim to the predatory slaughter industry by sending an urgent message to your legislators now urging them to pass the Save America’s Forgotten Equines (SAFE) Act? This important bill would permanently ban the domestic slaughter of American horses and their export for that purpose.

The predatory horse meat industry targets racehorses, work horses, companion horses and even children’s ponies, trucking them hundreds of miles in cramped trailers, without food or water, to slaughterhouses in Canada or Mexico. There, these poor horses are brutally slaughtered, some are even dismembered while they’re still alive!

You can help stop the cruel export of horses abroad for slaughter and prevent horrific deaths like these from happening again. With the Triple Crown starting tomorrow and horses in the spotlight, now’s the time to push Congress to protect horses.

Please take action and urge your legislators to end horse abuse and slaughter by passing the SAFE Act!
