How can we achieve equitable rights for LGBTQ Americans?

This Friday will mark four years since a man with legally obtained firearms entered the Pulse nightclub here in Central Florida and murdered 49 innocent people. At the time, it was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history -- and it shook me to my core. After watching my Republican congressman cash a check from the NRA just two days later, I knew I had to take action -- so I ran for Congress.

Now, as we approach four years since the Pulse nightclub attack, I’m taking time to remember the victims -- mostly members of the LGBTQ community -- who were targeted and killed that night. We have made progress as a nation in the fight to end discrimination against LGBTQ people, but we still have a long way to go.

The best way I know to honor their memories is to do all we can to fight for true equality for all people. That's why I cosponsored and voted for the Equality Act. But we can and must do more.
