Today, May 2, is the feast of St. Athanasius, a Doctor of the
Church, who was known for his staunch defense of the Nicene Creed and
the Father of Orthodoxy. May the next Successor of Peter follow in his
footsteps.
Now let us go forth, invoking our most compassionate mother
of all and seek her “good counsel”.
Day 2—New Pope “after God’s heart” Like King
David
We all know how important good
pastoral leadership is for our Church at every level, but especially
at the highest level of the Papacy. Although the faithful have no
direct involvement in the electoral process for a new pope, we all
have an obligation to pray for a Supreme Pontiff who, like King David
of old, will need to be “a man after God’s heart” (1 Sam 13:14) and
fully conformed to Christ’s Will in all things.
Of all the Cardinals going into the
conclave, one will emerge from that locked room bearing the “keys of
the Kingdom” (Mt 16:18-19) as promised to Peter by Our Lord Jesus
Christ on that very first Papal Election. It is upon that Rock that
Christ founded His Church, and we know for certain that the “gates of
the netherworld shall not prevail against it.”
Yet, our prayers for the next
successor of Peter count for much in the hands of Our Lady of Good
Counsel during this Solemn Novena of Hope.
Share this link with your family, friends and Catholic groups so that Our Lady,
who is the living temple of the Holy Trinity, may guide them in their
most pressing needs.
May Our Lady of Good Counsel, who
is the Depositary of the secrets of the Most High, come to the aid of
the Cardinals gathered in Rome to elect the Vicar of
Christ.
Embracing the love of the Risen
Jesus and His mother Mary,
