Since we launched the Payback Project four months ago, we’ve seen more and more evidence that Senate Republicans are more interested in their bottom lines than in representing their constituents. 

We put out the call to mobilize when Trump’s henchmen all but promised to cover up his crimes -- senator after senator choosing to look past their obligations to the Constitution and their constituents -- and you answered loud and clear. But we’ve reached a new point in this fight. Not only is our democracy at risk now, but the very lives of Americans are on the line.

For months, Trump downplayed the severity of the coronavirus crisis and failed to take decisive action to prepare our nation. And the Republican Senate time and time again showed that they cared more about the economy than the lives of their constituents. In that time, three numbers continued to climb while they did nothing:

The number of coronavirus cases in the US is 2,077,567. 
The number of Americans who have died is now 115,576.
The number of under- and unemployed Americans is nearing 30,000,000.

And the reality is that while Trump and his Republican enablers continue to do nothing to meet the moment of a pandemic that is disproportionately killing and impacting Black and brown people, they’ve also been silent on another crisis: police violence and racism. 

As Trump fueled hatred and spread lies about protests, Republican senators were silent.

As Trump threatened to deploy military troops to respond to protests, Republican senators were silent.

As Trump teargassed peaceful protesters for a campaign photo-op, Republican senators were silent. 

As Trump plans a campaign rally on Juneteenth, in Tulsa, the site of one of the worst race massacres in history, Republican senators are silent.

This has to stop. Every single one of Trump’s enablers must lose their job in November.

Today, we’re announcing that we’re ramping up the Payback Project campaign to take control of the Senate on November 3. This is a massive awareness campaign to expose the truth of their complicity to voters and to build a growing grassroots army on the ground ready to ensure their Democratic opponents have the funding and people necessary to activate voters and win. 

Look, we’ve already proven that our movement can scale to heights unseen before. Don’t believe it? The numbers don't lie: almost 36,000 Indivisibles have said they're all-in, you've sent more than 1,000,000 texts to their constituents, and together we've raised over 1.6 million raised to vote them out.

How We Make It Possible

This is a huge plan. And we’ll be honest -- defeating these 11 Republican senators, with their entrenched power and millionaire donors, is not going to be easy. To win these races, we’ll have to give it everything we’ve got. We simply can’t cut corners if we’re going to win.

We’ll be keeping you in the loop between now and November with all the ways you can support and get involved in our efforts, but a great way to ensure we’re ready to do what it takes is with a donation to support this and all our work. Our latest estimates show we’ll be spending 2.5 million dollars on this project, and we’re committed to being funded by the movement so we stay accountable to the movement.
