![]() This may come as a surprise, but the Supreme Court (Yes, this Supreme Court) just delivered a HUGE victory for common-sense gun safety legislation. Let me explain: In 2021, when I was a member of the State Senate, I passed a law that banned gun shows at the OC Fair. And in 2022, I passed a law which expanded the scope of that ban to all public property in the state. These two pieces of legislation played a MASSIVE role in preventing the unchecked spread of firearms in Orange County and across the state. But in 2023, a radical Trump-appointed judge issued an injunction against my legislation, essentially arguing that any regulation of firearms is unconstitutional! It was an extreme, infuriating opinion that had absolutely no basis in fact. Nevertheless, this activist judge temporarily reversed my ban, allowing thousands of guns to pour into our communities in laxly regulated circumstances. Thankfully, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals reversed this absurd decision a few months later, reinstating my ban. And now, it was just announced that the Supreme Court denied a hearing for an appeal — which means my gun show ban will stand. This is an ENORMOUS victory for the people of California — because thoughts and prayers are no longer an adequate response to gun violence. Our communities are demanding real action to address this epidemic, so I couldn’t be more proud that this legislation will continue to keep Californians safe.
