Dear Democrats,
My name is Sara Attleson. I come from the Labor Movement. I come from the American Federation of Teachers. I come from a military family. I come from grassroots communities that know if you want something better, you organize for it. And because of all of you, I am honored and humbled to be your Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico.
I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. My victory in the race for DPNM Chair last Saturday doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to all of us—our union members, our teachers, our ward chairs, our precinct leaders, our county activists, the volunteers who made the calls, organized, drove hours to attend county meetings, and showed this state what it looks like to believe in something bigger than ourselves.
We won this campaign the same way we’re going to win the future—by bringing people in, not pushing people out. Over the past few months, I traveled to counties across New Mexico, because this party must be present in every zip code, every city, every small town, and every pueblo.
The path ahead won’t be easy. Republicans control the House and Senate. An unelected billionaire is wreaking havoc across the federal government and Donald Trump is dismantling our most foundational government resources and programs. We have to show them what we’re made of, and fight for our democracy from the bottom up.
This isn’t just a moment for resistance. It’s a moment for rebuilding and determination.
Stepping into this new role, I am tasked with making sure the Democratic Party in New Mexico stays solvent and is equipped to take on Trump, his billionaire backers like Elon Musk, and the GOP in the fights ahead. Please make a monthly contribution to DPNM today so I can start my term as Chair off on a strong note.
