Over the last several days, high ranking active and retired military leaders, including myself, have stood up to Trump and the Republican Leadership en masse and said enough is enough. Under no circumstance is it acceptable to use the U.S. military against peaceful protestors.
Such a public and emphatic response against a President from our retired Admirals and Generals is unprecedented and thus carries enormous weight, especially among veterans and active service members.
This is yet another sign that the tide is turning against Trump, Matt Gaetz, and Republicans like them who divide our nation and put party before country.
My district, Florida’s 1st, has one of the highest numbers of veteran and military personnel in the nation. Historically they have voted Republican, but this year that’s changing.
With senior military leaders calling out divisive and authoritarian rhetoric that threatens our constitutional government, many are rethinking their vote — including their support for one of the most divisive and dishonest politicians in the nation, Matt Gaetz. Instead, they are looking for real leaders with experience who can unite our nation and move us forward.
This is not only a historic and defining moment for our nation but a transformative one.
