Right now, the Maine legislature is considering a bill that would expand ranked-choice voting to races for governor and the state legislature. This simple change would give voters more power, better choices, and help ensure candidates who win actually reflect the will of the people.

Next year’s gubernatorial election promises to be a hotly contested affair, and that’s why it’s so important to expand ranked-choice voting now. All of us – not to mention the lands, waters, and wildlife we hold dear – are at risk when anti-environment politicians can be elected despite being opposed by a majority of voters.

MCV is working hard to push this bill over the finish line, as well as:

* Fighting dangerous legislation like the SAVE Act, which would make it harder for women, young people, and LGBTQ+ people to vote;
* Testifying, organizing, and holding lawmakers accountable at the State House to ensure every eligible voter in Maine can access the ballot and have their voice heard; and
* Collaborating with our partners in the Environmental Priorities Coalition to pass a slate of strong climate and environmental legislation.
