Honoring Our Vietnam War Veterans with Lapel Pins and Lasting Gratitude

Congressman Krishnamoorthi thanks Vietnam War veterans for their service during the ceremony.

Last week, I was honored to join Congresswoman Delia Ramirez and the Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County in recognizing our Vietnam War veterans ahead of the 50th anniversary of the war’s end. During the ceremony, we presented local veterans with Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins and congressional commendation letters to honor their bravery, sacrifice, and service.

More than 58,000 Americans, including more than 3,000 Illinoisans, gave their lives during the Vietnam War. Their sacrifices—and the sacrifices of all those who returned home carrying the weight of their service—can never be fully repaid. As we commemorate this solemn anniversary, we must continue working to uphold our nation’s sacred commitment to care for our veterans and their families—not just with words, but with actions.

It was a true privilege to express my gratitude to these heroes and reaffirm our collective promise: that we will never forget their service, and we will never cease fighting for them. You can read more about our Vietnam War commemoration ceremony here.

Celebrating Our District’s Young Artists at the 2025 Congressional Art Competition

This past week, I had the pleasure of hosting the 2025 Congressional Art Competition ceremony at the Trickster Cultural Center in Schaumburg, where we celebrated the incredible artistic talent of high school students from across our district.

This year’s competition was one of the most competitive yet, showcasing the creativity and vision of so many young artists. I’m thrilled to announce our top three winners:

1st Place: Joshua Black of Aurora Central Catholic, Grade 12, for Berri vs The Business Square
2nd Place: Mikayla Stevens of Hoffman Estates High School, Grade 10, for Moment of Glory
3rd Place: Kayli Elizondo of Hoffman Estates High School, Grade 11, for White Dog at Sunset

Joshua’s artwork will soon hang in the U.S. Capitol, where it will be seen by Members of Congress, staff, and thousands of visitors from around the world every day. Congratulations to all the students who participated in this year’s contest – you should be proud of your incredible work.
