Valley of the Sun United Way is working alongside you and our community to increase third grade reading proficiency in Maricopa County. We know that when a child learns to read, they unlock a future of endless possibilities and it’s people like you who make that future a reality.
Today, fewer than half of Maricopa County third graders are reading at grade level. The consequences of these early reading struggles can last a lifetime—impacting graduation rates, economic opportunities and overall community well-being.

Enhancing Literacy Outcomes and Driving Academic Success

Literacy Hubs at Title I schools are one of the many ways our community has come together to ensure young children are learning to read by the third grade, so they can then begin reading to learn.
These vibrant, literacy-rich spaces offer a multi-generational approach to provide families with evidence-based programming and tools that are needed to support early literacy, family stability and help every child succeed.
Because of you, we’ve already launched three Literacy Hubs that have been proven to help children meet and exceed literacy benchmarks. We need your support to sustain these vital Literacy Hubs, but we’re not stopping there.
