John,
The Kansas Legislature is once again playing political games with the future of our state. Last week, state Senate Republicans refused to confirm Carl Folsom III to the Kansas Court of Appeals -- ignoring his record on civil rights and criminal justice.
Their vote was not about Carl's record. Their vote was politically motivated and hurts our state’s justice system. This was a direct retaliation on Laura and her administration.
A column in the Kansas City Star highlights how the state Legislature has been playing political games as a form of "payback politics" because of steps Laura has taken to address the pandemic.
Let us be clear: there is never a time to play political games in our state, but doing it during the worst health crisis in a century, is an abdication of their constitutional duty. And the state Legislature is acting in a way that will affect the State Court of Appeals and our state's judicial process.
It's time our state legislators fulfill their promise to work for the people of Kansas. If you agree, add your name to demand an end to the political games and payback politics.
