The countdown to Mother’s Day begins: we’re just 10 days out from this special day, so we’re reflecting on the immeasurable gift that mothers across the world give us — the gift of life.

In some of the most dangerous places on Earth — including Gaza, Sudan, Ukraine, and Afghanistan — mothers face unimaginable threats to their health and safety every single day. Yet, through resilience and strength, they bring life into the world.

This year, we are honoring this profound act of love by launching a campaign to support mothers in crisis — raising funds that could mean the difference between life and death for them and their newborns.

Mothers give the gift of life — we have the power to return the favor.

Any donation you make between now and Mother’s Day on May 11 will be matched, DOUBLING the impact of your generosity for women and girls who need it most.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT: MAKE A GIFT

Your support this Mother’s Day season will help provide maternal care, protect women and girls from violence, and support safe childbirth in crisis-affected areas. With your help, we can deliver lifesaving interventions such as prenatal care, skilled birth attendance, and emergency obstetric care, even in the most challenging environments.

Your gift is not just a donation — it is a lifeline that brings care, dignity, and safety to those most in need.

In Afghanistan, Sughra told us about her harrowing journey to deliver her son safely at a UNFPA-supported health house: “The labor was agonizing, but I was happy that we managed everything from the family health house. If the clinic hadn’t existed during those days, God knows what could have happened to me.”

Rokaya, a 19-year-old mother enduring the war in Sudan shared her experience seeking help at a UNFPA-supported camp after walking for four days to reach safety: “I fled my village with my neighbor. When I arrived at the camp, I was terrified and exhausted. A midwife came to my tent and gave me the care I needed. Later, I was transferred to a hospital, where I gave birth to my baby boy.”

And in Ukraine, Olena, a mother living on the frontlines of the war, who depended on UNFPA facilities for care during pregnancy recounted, "It is terrifying when the explosions hit because you fear for the life growing inside you. Thanks to the doctors who have stayed — they are doing everything possible to fight for our future."

Nadia told us that her pregnancy was plagued by anxiety and fear as she was displaced multiple times due to the war in Gaza. “My pregnancy during the war was very difficult. I was really afraid for the baby. I was scared that something would happen to him from all the stress, and because we had to keep moving from place to place.”

As we approach a day that celebrates the spirit of motherhood, let's unite in our commitment to make motherhood safer for all. We hope that you’ll join us this Mother's Day in making a meaningful difference in the lives of women, girls, and newborns in Afghanistan, Sudan, Ukraine, Gaza, and beyond — ensuring that more mothers live to experience the joy and safety of childbirth.

No woman should die while giving life. You can help. Extend your heart to mothers in need. Make two-times the impact with a gift today and help us save mothers' and babies’ lives across the world.

MAKE 2X THE IMPACT

Thank you.
