John,
“It’s difficult for everybody.”
“[The kids] seemed to be in relatively good spirits.”
“What I saw was not as bad as the reports we’ve read.”
These are all things that Dan Lipinski just said about the moral crisis happening at our border. The idea that he would go out of his way to defend this administration is truly appalling.
Our district deserves someone who will stand up to the Trump adminstration and call out its racist, xenophobic policies that caused the humanitarian crisis at our border -- someone who will fight to keep families together, to protect Dreamers and to secure and advance immigrants’ rights.
I promise to be that person, John, but I can’t get there without you. Will you chip in to our campaign today?
Congressman Lipinski witnessed the horrible conditions of these detention centers and the inhumanity at the border with his own eyes, and instead of standing up and condemning this injustice, his immediate response was to downplay the cruelty of the Trump Administration.
The truth is this shouldn’t be surprising to anyone who knows his record. He has a long history of supporting anti-immigrant policies.
He’s bucked his party and joined Republicans in voting for a border wall at least three times. He voted against the DREAM Act in 2010 -- and then in 2016, he was one of just seven House Democrats who refused to defend President Obama’s use of executive action to institute the DREAM Act.
Lipinski even goes as far as opposing both the bedrock constitutional principle of birthright citizenship and providing any pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants -- just like Donald Trump.
In fact, he’s a lot closer to the president on this issue than he is to the people of this district. These views are extreme and dangerous, and they don’t represent us. Let’s send a message about Dan Lipinski’s anti-immigration policies -- chip in and build a campaign that will defeat him.
Thanks,
Marie
