One of the hardest things about climate action is that progress is never guaranteed. We have to fight hard for every inch of ground we gain, and then we have to relentlessly defend that ground.

It took decades of advocacy, science, and coalition-building to secure the historic climate and clean energy programs in the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

And now everything we’ve fought for is at risk.

As I write this, Republicans in Congress are charging forward with a budget bill that would eviscerate crucial IRA tax incentives—the same incentives that are projected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030.

Repeal would not only endanger our progress on emissions, it would also lead to higher energy costs—as much as $500 per household per year.

I’ve spent my career working in the spaces where climate, policy, communities, and conservation intersect and interact. So let me tell you, the climate and clean energy programs in the IRA aren’t just abstract policy. They’re real, tangible progress.

They’re electric vehicle factories, good-paying union jobs, solar panels on schools, offshore wind farms, and so much more.
