When we first launched The Hechinger Report in 2010, there were just three of us. Creating a nonprofit newsroom that produced free, accessible journalism felt daunting — especially at a time when for-profit newsrooms were struggling. But 15 years later, I’m proud to report that we’ve grown to 23 full-time staff members and many contributing writers and editors whom you and thousands of other readers can count on for high-quality, timely reporting week after week.

As we celebrate this anniversary, we want to ensure that journalism that drives meaningful change — by informing new legislation, improving schools and inspiring readers to engage with their local communities — continues for years to come.

Starting now — through May 31 — we hope to raise $15,000.
