South Sudan has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, with 1,223 deaths for every 100,000 live births. Ongoing violence, limited health care, economic instability, and devastating flooding have made it even harder to access critical medical care.
To combat this, MSF’s dedicated midwives at Aweil State Hospital are working tirelessly to provide safe deliveries and essential newborn care for expectant mothers and critically ill children.
In times of crisis, mothers and their children are among the most vulnerable—whether caught in conflict, enduring natural disasters, or battling deadly disease outbreaks. Without access to essential medical care, pregnancy and childbirth can quickly become life-threatening. Even in the most challenging conditions, MSF teams are saving lives. See our work in action.
Thank you for supporting MSF and the new mothers of South Sudan. Your compassion brings hope, healing, and new beginnings.
With gratitude,
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières USA
