Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Thursday, May 1 is May Day, a day which in 1889 was declared to be International Workers’ Day, when we celebrate labor and the working class.
But more than that, May Day is intended to be a day of action, when workers take to the streets to speak out.
Labor unions and our community allies are leading May Day actions across the state – check out Action Hub to join a May Day event near you!
One of the biggest actions taking place Thursday is the planned AFSCME 3299 and UPTE-CWA 9119 picket at every University of California campus and medical center.
Visit here for a list of locations where UC workers and allied unions will be picketing.
In addition, NUHW will hold a unity rally and strike authorization vote from noon to 1 p.m. at Children’s Hospital Oakland, 747 52nd Street.
This May Day, we want to see you out there, being loud and proud in your support for the labor cause and posting on social media using the hashtag #MayDay!
In Solidarity,
Lorena Gonzalez
