The Ounce is deeply saddened by the loss of our partner and ally, Maria Whelan. Our condolences go out to Maria’s family and

For years, we have been proud to partner with Maria and Action for Children in our shared mission to serve Illinois’ most vulnerable children and families. Maria was a steadfast and passionate force in the early childhood field, and her indefatigable spirit will be sorely missed by the entire community. Her voice and legacy live on and will serve as a source of inspiration as we continue her work on behalf of Illinois’ children and families.
