Friend,
Across the country, June marks the beginning of Pride Month -- a time for us to come together and recognize the hard-fought progress the LGBTQ+ community has made and the work we still have to do to achieve true equality.
It’s important to remember the origin of Pride. It’s not glitter or parades. It’s honoring the brave folks that stood up for their rights at the Stonewall Riots on June 28, 1969. It’s uplifting the fact that the movement was led overwhelmingly by queer and trans Black and brown people.
To honor Pride Month, we’re launching “Your Art, Your Voice” -- an art contest we want to use to highlight queer voices and uplift their work, especially the work of Black and brown artists.
What does the political expression of Pride look like to you? Submit your work of art by Tuesday, June 16, to enter our Pride art contest. Contest winners will be rewarded $4,500*: [link removed]
“Your Art, Your Voice” is an opportunity for us to listen to voices that are systemically silenced. We will hold space to recognize the political roots of pride and learn from each other.
We’ll narrow all submissions to a Top 10 by June 23. After a Top 10 has been selected, voting will be open to the public. The top three vote earners will be contest winners and will receive $4,500 grand prizes.
Art is critical to the soul of social movements. Join us in recognizing the political roots of Pride Month by entering our contest*: [link removed]
In solidarity,
