Friend,
This is what a cover-up looks like.
Ed Martin – Trump’s nominee for U.S. Attorney in D.C. – submitted
responses to senators’ questions packed with evasions. He dodged more than
80 questions. Claimed “I don’t recall” nearly 40 times. Said “I don’t
know” 21 times. Refused to answer at least 20 more with vague excuses.^[ [link removed] ]
And yet Trump wants to hand him one of the most powerful law enforcement
jobs in the country.
Martin refused to answer – and senators in both parties are now raising
concerns.
[1]Tell the Senate: Ed Martin doesn’t belong in power. Add your name
now! >>
Senator Dick Durbin, the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, said
Martin’s responses “leave me with even more questions” and that “Mr.
Martin makes a number of false statements that are easily debunked.”^[1]
And just today, Republican Senator Thom Tillis says he’s “not comfortable”
supporting the nomination, at least for now.^[ [link removed] ]
That kind of bipartisan resistance doesn’t happen often – and it means
there’s an opportunity to turn up the pressure and stop this nomination in
its tracks.
[2]This nomination can be stopped – help shut it down now >>
Martin has spent years attacking civil rights groups, defending election
deniers, and aligning himself with January 6 sympathizers.^[ [link removed] ] In 2022, he
chose to address a far-right conference with speakers tied to Holocaust
denial and white nationalist propaganda.^[ [link removed] ]
This isn’t someone who slipped through the cracks. This is the kind of
extremist nominee Trump chose to install – and the consequences could be
enormous.
Republican nervousness about the nomination is a good sign. But we’ve seen
Republican senators say the right thing about bad nominees – and then vote
to confirm them anyway under MAGA pressure. It’s up to us to make sure
that doesn’t happen.
[3]Let’s make sure this nomination goes nowhere. Add your name >>
Thanks for your advocacy,
— People For the American Way
