Hi, John!
Watching people I love get impacted by federal layoffs has been heartbreaking. It’s not just about losing a paycheck — it’s the feeling of instability and the uncertainty that follows. Listening to the 1A episode "Finding Agency in Chaos" [[link removed]] made me realize just how deep the damage goes — and how chaos eats away at people's sense of worth and stability. These aren’t just federal workers. They are our neighbors, our friends, and our family.
But if there's one thing I’m holding onto, it's this: even in chaos, we have choices. We can create meaning where institutions fail us. That episode was a reminder that finding agency isn't about pretending everything is fine. It's about acknowledging the hurt and the fear, yet still choosing to move forward. Organizing in our communities, supporting each other, and picking up projects we’ve left on the back burner. These acts aren’t small — they’re necessary. In a world that wants us to feel powerless, choosing to act, however we can, is how we take our power back. So, how are you finding your agency in chaos?
Now, let’s take a look at some of the things that brought me joy throughout April:
