We need your support to get this bill passed.
John,
Senator Adam Schiff and Representative Lucy McBath introduced a new bill in Congress today: The Assault Weapons Ban of 2025. We are proud to stand behind it and support its passage.
Before we get into why this bill is so important, will you pitch in $20.25? We need all the support we can get to push for the passage of this critical bill.
Ever since The Assault Weapons Ban of 1994 expired in 2004, gun violence has only increased. Research shows that 38 mass shootings could have been prevented since 2005 if we already had a federal ban on assault weapons.
We’re not exaggerating when we say that these are preventable tragedies.
85.8% of the total 501 mass-shooting fatalities reported in 44 mass-shooting incidents were caused by assault weapons. A ban on assault weapons is long overdue.
Highlights of the new bill include:
- A ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons.
- A ban on magazines and other ammunition feeding devices that hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
- A required background check on any future sale, trade or gifting of an assault weapon permitted by the bill.
- A ban on bump-fire stocks and other devices that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire at fully automatic rates.
This is just the start, John. With this bill, we are heading in the direction that will ultimately end gun violence. No one deserves to go through the tragedy of a mass shooting.
March For Our Lives was born out of tragedy. We turned our grief into action, and we’re working around the clock to create tangible solutions to the problem of gun violence.
The Assault Weapons Ban of 2025 is one of the first steps to permanently ending gun violence. We’re going to do everything we can to make sure Congress passes this bill, but we can’t do it without you.
With your support, we can be the change we need. Will you pitch in $20.25 today so we can fight for our safety?
