Friend -
We’re 100 days into this new administration, and while it feels like a lifetime of chaos, one thing is painfully clear: the attacks against immigrants are coming fast, loud, and terrifyingly focused.
Just in the past few weeks, we’ve watched attempts to dismantle pathways to citizenship, and yes—even birthright citizenship—become serious talking points. Birthright citizenship! The very thing that defines who we are as a country. And while some might roll their eyes and say, "That’ll never happen," I say: it’s already happening. Piece by piece. Bill by bill. Soundbite by soundbite.

My parents came to this country in the 1970s. They’ve paid taxes, raised children, worked hard, and given more to this country than many who are currently trying to kick them out. And yet, I lie awake some nights wondering if they’ll be snatched up—without due process—and deported. Because that’s not hypothetical anymore. That’s reality.
These aren’t just immigration policies. They’re warnings. And if history has taught us anything, it’s that targeting one group is never the end goal—it’s always the first step.
So my question is this: Where are our elected leaders? While we’re attending protests, flooding town halls, making calls, writing letters, and teaching our children about justice, what are they doing? Hiding behind procedural jargon? Posting another "We’re monitoring the situation" tweet?
We deserve more. We demand more. This is the moment they were elected for. To defend democracy, human dignity, and the values we supposedly hold dear.
I don’t know what else to do that doesn’t border on taking up arms, and that’s a terrifying thing to even think. But I do know this: we cannot and will not stop fighting. Not for our families. Not for our neighbors. Not for our future.
If you’re feeling this fire too, don’t let it die out. Channel it. Organize with your local immigrant rights group. Hold your electeds accountable. Share your story. We need each other more than ever.
In community and rage,
Edil, your friendly neighborhood progressive mom
PowerPAC is a social justice organization that strategically directs financial and human resources to local and state organizations working to deliver wins in legislative fights, ballot initiatives, and more. For years the money we've raised has, dollar for dollar, been given back to the communities we work with. We've made sure that your investments were being used to build power for our communities because too often we are underrepresented and ignored.
