Dear Friends,

I work every day to ensure this is a community where people live, work, and thrive while enjoying a strong sense of place and belonging.

This month, I was proud to join in the celebration of Deaf History Month - lifting up the history, culture, and contributions of our deaf and hard-of-hearing residents.

In partnership with the Maryland Deaf Community Center and the Maryland School for the Deaf, we hosted a Deaf History Month Celebration on April 1. I want to thank Sam Sonnenstrahl, Mary Lynn Lally, Jackie Kanekuni, Linda Stoltz, Joann Griffin, Nan Principe Crockett, Jini Borggaard, Janice Martin, and the wonderful students who made this event a success.

Yesterday, I joined Superintendent John A. Serrano and Coordinator of Outreach Erin Buck Skees for a visit to the Maryland School for the Deaf. It was an honor to spend time with students and to learn about how MSD prepares students for post-secondary education and workforce readiness.

Deaf and hard-of-hearing residents contribute greatly to our community and our quality of life, and it was an honor to celebrate their history and lift up their voices and experiences this month.

Sincerely,

By authority: Friends of Jessica Fitzwater, Paul Fulcher, Treasurer.
