Press freedom is no longer a given in the United States. Journalists and newsrooms are increasingly facing pressures to their digital and physical safety, and mounting legal threats from the current administration and its allies.
Today, we published a special report about the first 100 days of the Trump administration. Here’s what you need to know:
- These are not normal times. In the first 100 days of President Donald Trump’s second term, there have been a startling number of actions that may cause irreprable harm to press freedom in the U.S. and will likely take decades to repair.
- CPJ has noted a significant increase in the number of U.S. journalists seeking safety advice.
- The increasing use of government and regulatory bodies against news organizations is creating a sense of alarm about the possible consequences of unfavorable coverage of the Trump administration.
CPJ is on the front lines, defending journalists’ rights, pushing back against unjust prosecutions, and ensuring reporters have the support they need to keep going. But we can’t do it alone.
We’ve set an ambitious goal: to raise $100,000 to fight for press freedom in the U.S. and worldwide. And thanks to a generous donor, every gift will be matched dollar for dollar—but only until May 31st.
