John,
Donavan McKinney is running for Congress in Michigan’s 13th district, and we’re proud to have endorsed him as Justice Democrats’ first 2026 candidate.
Here’s the truth: his opponent, Rep. Shri Thanedar, has got to go.
Thanedar is a flip-flopper and a political opportunist. He ran as a progressive because it was convenient, but not because he genuinely shares our values. He’s even considered switching parties.
In fact, Thanedar went from a candidate AIPAC once spent against to one they now proudly support. He’s taken AIPAC-sponsored trips to Israel and refused to support the only bill calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. In Congress, he’s voted in lockstep with the pro-Israel lobby – abandoning the values of peace and justice.
Thanedar will never fight for the working class because he is not part of it. He’s a multimillionaire businessman who bought his way into office using his personal wealth to fund his campaigns. He doesn’t understand the need for things like Medicare for All, fighting for Social Security and Medicaid, and taking on corporate lobbies like Big Crypto because he is simply out of touch with the people he’s supposed to represent. While Thanedar is Detroit’s own Elon Musk, Donavan is running for this seat because he’s not a millionaire or billionaire.
To make matters worse, Thanedar is just bad at being a Congressman. His office has been plagued with accusations of poor constituent services and he was even sued for fraud. The people of Detroit and the rest of MI-13 deserve better.
That’s where Donavan comes in. He’s a lifelong Detroiter who’s always stood up for progressive values – not just when it’s convenient for him. While billionaires and corporate interests tear our government apart, we need a working-class champion like Donavan, not another multimillionaire like Thanedar.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
