Dear Friends,

In case you missed it — The Advocate's editorial board recently weighed in on SB 189 ([link removed]) , saying "The Legislature's proposal to raid federal aid for Louisiana cities and towns is the wrong way to address coronavirus shutdowns and its attendant crisis in business and government."

We agree. Senate Bill 189, which would gut more than $55 million from our city's CARES Act allotment. We literally can't afford for that to be taken away — click here now to help us stay strong. ([link removed])

"Few cities and parishes are more hurt than metropolitan New Orleans, with a loss of tourism dollars as well as oil and gas businesses hurt drastically by the collapse in demand for energy worldwide.

Mayor LaToya Cantrell, of New Orleans, has urged the governor to veto SB189 and we agree with her."

— The Advocate editorial board, June 10, 2020
Mayor Cantrell is working tirelessly to make sure New Orleans' recovery continues to progress in a positive direction. It's taken a lot of hard work to flatten the curve and get to this stage of reopening — and if the Governor doesn't veto SB 189, all of that work could be for nothing.

Will you chip in now to continue to support our Mayor's efforts to reinvigorate New Orleans — especially if SB 189 doesn't get vetoed? Click here now! ([link removed])

The recovery of New Orleans is at a serious crossroads right now. Congress passed the CARES Act because they knew local governments needed the resources to fully-fund basic essential services like trash pickup, fire protection, and affordable housing for their employees. Without these services, businesses can't function at their full potential, which will lead to less visitors coming to New Orleans at a time when we must rely on tourism to get our economy back on track.

We have to work together to get our economy back to work and built to last. And that's why we need your help to continue moving forward.
Thank you,
Team LaToya

P.S. — Want to help ensure that SB 189 gets vetoed? Click here to contact our Governor now and let him know that New Orleans needs these critical funds to fully recover. ([link removed])
