Black Lives Matter

John, we’ve now had 100 days of the Trump administration. It’s been a long, chaotic ride filled with tyrannical behavior.

Despite their efforts to flood the zone with authoritarian bullshit, we’ve responded every step of the way. The more chaos we see from the petty tyrant, the more organized we get. We’re even starting to see some of our work pay off.

Let's dive in: They set the tone when Trump’s right hand man Elon made a Nazi salute on stage at the inaugural celebration, not once but twice. We called it out, loudly and unapologetically. Following that, Trump signed a record number of executive orders. Many of which are now being challenged by us and in the Courts.Later on in February, the House passed a Trump-approved bill that slashed $2 trillion in spending over the next decade that will directly and negatively impact Black communities. We can’t forget the threats to pull federal funding for DC if Mayor Bowser didn’t get rid of BLM Plaza—the plaza has now officially been destroyed. But they still can’t erase us.And somehow, that was just the beginning. Plainclothes officers are taking people off the streets to deport them overseas. All because they are speaking out against injustice. It is a clear act of political retaliation. And an act meant to instill fear and suppress our constitutional right to protest.Trump also invoked the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, a law written when Black people were still enslaved. He used it to kidnap and disappear people, sending them to one of the most violent and inhumane prisons in the world in El Salvador without due process. And of course, we can’t forget Trump’s attacks on education. Trump is working to shutter the Department of Education by gutting its staff and cutting funding. This will hurt some of our most underfunded schools, especially in Black communities and communities of color. Without quality education, how do our students thrive?History is happening right in front of us, and we’re not backing down. It’s not all grim. We’ve taken 30,933 actions as a team to counter them. Our advocacy stretches far and wide. Whether it be by organizing, protesting, cramming into town halls, or creating revolutionary art, for defending our right to protest or bringing illegally kidnapped people home, we will not be silent. And there’s signs our efforts are working—just look at the erasure of Harriet Tubman from the National Park Service’s Underground Railroad website. We called them out and her image is back. Our impact is real. Our movement is growing. And we’re just getting started. There is still a ton of work to be done and we need your support to keep up our advocacy for the next 100 days and beyond. Will you pitch in $5 or $10 to help our movement flourish?

Black Lives Matter imagines a world where Black people across the diaspora thrive, experience joy, and are not defined by their struggles. In pursuing liberation, we envision a future fully divested from police, prisons, and all punishment paradigms and which invests in justice, joy, and culture.
