Hi John,

This weekend, DxE activists are mobilizing in over two dozen cities across the country to send Trader Joe's a clear message: Stop selling chickens from Perdue's Petaluma Poultry, a supplier with documented cases of criminal animal cruelty and serious public health risks.

Atlanta. Chicago. Denver. Fresno. Los Angeles. Pittsburgh. San Francisco. D.C.

These are just some of the 25+ cities participating in this nationwide weekend of action. See the full list of cities and more information on the
event page here. If there is a protest in your area, please join the action

Why Trader Joe's and Why Now?
For years, DxE has been exposing widespread abuse and disease at Petaluma Poultry's facilities. Our investigations and a subsequent examination by Sonoma County Animal Services have revealed:
  • Birds who were emaciated, bruised, and had necrotic wounds so deep that muscle and bone were exposed
  • Birds who were non-ambulatory (unable to walk) and were left without the ability to access food or water
  • Widespread diseases including reovirus, Infectious Bronchitis Virus, and Infectious Bursal Disease
  • Ongoing violations that continue despite multiple exposés
We have repeatedly informed Trader Joe's of this evidence, including by visiting their headquarters in Monrovia, CA. Despite the evidence, Trader Joe's continues to stock their shelves with abused chickens from Petaluma Poultry wrapped up in the store's own packaging.

Take Action Now: Contact Trader Joe's
This weekend of action is an opportunity to show Trader Joe's the urgency of this issue and how many people care. The more people who join us in urging Trader Joe’s to cut ties, the more impactful our message will be. That's why we're asking everyone to contact Trader Joe's now, or as soon as you can.

Please take a few minutes to:
  • Email Trader Joe's through the feedback form on their website
  • Call their corporate headquarters: (626) 599-3700
  • Comment on their social media
Ask them to stop sourcing from Perdue's Petaluma Poultry and to commit to never using this supplier again.

More detailed instructions, including sample messages, can be found

Thank you,
Almira
