Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer scores huge win for workers during Trump visit
During Donald Trump's visit to Michigan, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer successfully secured funding for a new fighter jet mission at Selfridge Air Base, protecting 30,000 jobs and ensuring $850 million in revenue for her state — and all it cost was a hug. And if you think it was a tough hug to watch, just imagine how Whitmer felt having to deliver it 🤮. While there was some backlash in progressive circles to Whitmer's playing nice with the MAGA cult leader, at the end of the day, navigating the grim realities of modern American politics is an exceptionally difficult task, and her job first and foremost is to do what's best for the voters in her state — and getting a win out of the narcissist-in-chief that actually helps people is nothing short of masterful.

Vulnerable GOP Trump-enabler Susan Collins has a Democratic challenger
Jordan for Maine: Susan Collins is wringing her hands over Trump’s destruction of our Constitution. She says she’s “concerned” but does nothing to stop him. She even voted against his impeachment because, in her words, he had “learned his lesson.” Obviously he hasn’t, but that hasn’t stopped her from looking the other way while he pillages our government. We’ve got a chance to replace Susan Collins and take back the Senate. Democrat Jordan Wood announced he’s running against her to do just that. Jordan’s a fighter who won’t take a DIME of corporate PAC money, so he needs our grassroots support. Will you chip in to help Jordan Wood flip the Senate and defeat Susan Collins?
House Judiciary introduces sweeping anti-immigrant budget bill
The Republican Party has unveiled its sweeping vision for remaking the American immigration system, and from the outset it's clear that they want to build a second wall around America — a pay wall. The American Dream will now be pay-to-play, as asylum seekers would have to pay $1000 just to file an application. Employment authorization? That'll be another $550. Protected status for kids? Another $500. Unaccompanied children's sponsors? A $3,500 fee. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The GOP wants to spend $80 billion to vastly expand America's immigrant gulag system, with $45 billion to build concentration camps, $100 million to deport unaccompanied children, and $75 million to rapidly deport suspected criminal before due process can be completed. Land of the fee, home of the detained.
"We're citizens!": Oklahoma City family traumatized after ICE raids home, but they weren't suspects
The rapacity, criminality, and nihilistic cruelty of the Trump administration is being embraced with glee by its enforcers. A family of US citizens in Oklahoma found themselves in a living nightmare after 20 armed men — belonging to ICE, the FBI, and the US Marshals service — burst into their home, forced the underage daughters outside in the rain in their underwear, tore apart the house, and seized all their phones, laptops, and life savings. "They were very dismissive, very rough, very careless. I kept pleading. I kept telling them we weren't criminals. They were treating us like criminals. We were here by ourselves. We didn't do anything," said the mother. "What am I supposed to think? My initial thought was we were being robbed — that my daughters, being females, were being kidnapped. You have guns pointed in our faces. Can you just reprogram yourself and see us as humans, as women? A little bit of mercy. Care a little bit about your fellow human, about your fellow citizen, fellow resident. We bleed too. We work. We bleed just like anybody else bleeds. We’re scared. You could see our faces that we were terrified. What makes you so much more worthier of your peace? What makes you so much more worthier of protecting your children? What makes you so much more worthy of your citizenship? What makes you more worthy of safety? Of being given the right that they took from me to protect my daughters?" she asked. The agents didn't even leave a card telling them where to call to get their stuff back. Folks, we're just three months in to our new American nightmare 2.0 and already US citizens are being robbed at gunpoint by Trump's jackbooted deportation thugs.

Trump warns "nothing will stop me" in vile rally appearance celebrating 100 days in office
The MAGA cult leader held a campaign-style pep rally in Michigan yesterday, throwing his base the xenophobic red meat they clearly were craving while vowing "nothing" would stop him in his fascistic march to dismantle American democracy and remake it to his liking. Donald attacked "communist radical left judges" for daring to uphold the basic rule of law and even aired a video of Venezuelan immigrants sent from the US to a Salvadoran gulag — complete with dramatic, Hollywood-style backing music — that drew raucous approval from rabid MAGA supporters. The expo center in Warren, Michigan, was only half full for the rally, however, and a steady stream of people left before the end of the wannabe dictator's meandering 89-minute address. Womp womp.
Exclusive: Most Americans see Trump as "dangerous dictator," poll says
Gee, wonder what tens of millions of Americans could possibly be witnessing three months into Trump's second term that might make them worry he's careening down Totalitarian Lane?
Trump official says American Dream is working in factories forever
In today's edition of the Let Them Eat Cake files, Trump's Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick — whose net worth is north of $3 billion — envisioned a future in which successive generations of Americans work in the same factories while he and his ultra-wealthy cronies reap all the profits. "This is the new model, where you work in these kind of plants for the rest of your life, and your kids work here, and your grandkids work here!" said Lutnick in an interview on MSNBC. While there's nothing wrong with working in a factory, usually the American Dream involves upward mobility, getting better jobs, and giving your children a chance at better lives than your own — not you and your descendents toiling in the same factory forever. Let's put Lutnick, who has spent his entire career in cushy finance jobs that largely amount to just gambling, on a factory floor for just one week and then see what he has to say.
Trump says Columbus Day will now just be Columbus Day, dismisses Indigenous People's Day
Despite centuries of whitewashed myth-making, Christopher Columbus was objectively speaking — even for his time, not just by contemporary standards — a cruel and vindictive monster who exacted unspeakable pain, suffering, disease, and death upon tens of thousands of indigenous people in the Caribbean. This is not even up for debate. Nonetheless, recent attempts to balance the historical ledger and give voice to entire peoples wiped out, enslaved, and impoverished by the Italian colonizer's exploits have not been met kindly by people on the white right. Case in point: Donald Trump just declared (without any authority) that Columbus Day will henceforth ONLY be Columbus Day and said his administration will not recognize Indigenous People's Day, which is customarily celebrated on the same calendar day. But progressives and liberals are the snowflakes, right? Got it.
Los Angeles County approves $4-billion sex abuse settlement, largest in US history
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the largest sex abuse settlement in US history on Tuesday, agreeing to pay $4 billion to victims abused as children in county-run juvenile facilities and foster homes. The vote is the culmination of years of fighting by victims, who argued that no one had paid the price for the rampant sexual abuse they said they suffered in county custody. The settlement includes nearly 7,000 claims, most of which involve alleged abuse from the 1980s through the 2000s. The thousands of claims tell the story of a county government that did little to screen for abusers, allowing a sprawling network of facilities for young people to become hunting grounds for predators. Victims said staffers were seldom disciplined for preying on vulnerable kids. LA County, which has a roughly $48-billion budget, has said it will pay for the mammoth settlement by taking out bonds and draining its rainy day fund. All the money will be made available to victims in the next five years, while the county expects to be paying for the bonds for the next 25 years.
