** Identity's Alternative Spring Break
------------------------------------------------------------
As many of our client families face another period of uncertainty, we expanded our Alternative Spring Break with programming for about 400 elementary, middle and high school students from 21 schools to recharge, try something new, make new friends and connect with caring adults in a safe and supportive environment.

STEM Spring Break

Bones, robots and a math tournament. For a group of Identity middle schoolers, this combination made for a mind-expanding Spring Break. Over three days, 20 pre-teens participated in hands-on STEM labs and workshops taught by Montgomery College faculty on their Germantown campus.

Retreat for Teens

High School Wellness Center students went on a 2-day retreat at Manidokan Camp in Knoxville, Maryland. It was the culmination of Identity's 'Be Yourself' curriculum-based program which helps teens build social and emotional skills and healthy relationships with peers and trusted adults.

From Kites to Rollercoasters

There were special activities including therapeutic recreation like kite-flying and picnics, community clean-ups and a hike at Cascade Falls with students from the eight high schools where we run programs with Bridge to Wellness partners. Teens from all eight schools went to Six Flags for a hair-raising ending to the week.

Stories Come to Life

These second and third graders experienced the magic of musical theater with a special field trip to see "Annie" at the National Theater. It was the first live musical for all of them and, for many, their first trip to Washington, DC.

Clean Up and Climb Up

Another group of Wellness Center teens volunteered with Montgomery Parks for a day of recycling and clean-up. Later in the week, many were again out in nature, this time at Adventure Park, where they stepped out of the familiar and bravely navigated obstacle courses and a zipline as a team.

Thank You

Thank you to everyone who contributed to Identity's Alternative Spring Break. You made it possible for children and teens who are absorbing the worries they see in the adults around them to simply be kids. And thank you to donors who gave recently to the LIFT fund for youth and families facing truly extraordinary crises and hardships. Thank you for helping us meet the moment.

High school youth learn relaxation techniques including yoga and mindfulness during Identity's Alternative Spring Break.
