Dear Mr. xxxxxx,
I wanted to pass along my latest update on what I have been doing to fight for you, Texas’ 21st Congressional District, and our country as a whole:
Looking Ahead at Budget Reconciliation:
One of the top priorities in DC is finishing the job on budget reconciliation and fighting against the DC Swamp’s urge to spend our country into oblivion. A few weeks ago, Republican leadership agreed to work to fight for at least $1 trillion in transformative spending cuts.
Further, the President committed to a minimum of $1 trillion in real reductions in mandatory spending, efforts to fully repeal the damaging “green scam” subsidies in the Inflation Reduction Act, and Medicaid reforms addressing eligibility, waste, fraud, abuse in the program.
The Speaker of the House also made a specific commitment to guarantee the House framework tying tax cuts to spending cuts. This was a non-negotiable deal-breaker – and will be for the final product. In keeping with the House budget resolution, the commitment would mean we start with a base assumption of $2.5 Trillion in economic growth and then $1 for $1 tax cuts to spending cuts above that number – such that when we achieve $1.4 Trillion in cuts, we will achieve the number necessary for TCJA permanence.
Finally, the Senate Majority Leader committed to achieving the House minimum of $1.5 Trillion in spending cuts. This comes on top of budget topline numbers that, while aspirational, represent a significant statement of commitment by the Senate to drive down spending.
It is now time for House and Senate committees to save our Republic from financial ruin. Failure is not an option. I look forward to working with Majority Leader Thune, Speaker Johnson, and the President to deliver for the American people.
Meeting with ICE:
Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) San Antonio regarding the state of their current operations under the new Trump Administration. ICE has been working diligently to address the egregious assault on our nation’s safety and the wellbeing of our citizens as orchestrated by the Biden administration.
Under the leadership of the Trump administration, ICE agents who work hard and care for the safety of our nation can finally do their job and clean up our streets from criminal aliens once again. Their strides toward securing the safety of our nation can be seen in our very own backyards, with ICE joining federal, state, and local law enforcement in an operation in Hays County, Texas, resulting in the apprehension of 47 illegal aliens.
ICE is on the frontline of removing the drug traffickers and criminal illegal aliens from our neighborhoods, and I support the crucial service they are providing for our great state and nation. Thank you to ICE San Antonio for the briefing.
Border Update:
Throughout my time representing Texas’s 21st Congressional District, I have been dedicated to securing our nation’s borders and ensuring an immigration system that is orderly and based on the values and interests of American people, as opposed to those of Washington’s politicians and elites. The latest report on the U.S. Customs and Border Protections data from March highlights our country’s move toward upholding the rule of law and defending the safety of the American people.
For example, U.S. Border Patrol (USBP) apprehensions between ports of entry at the Southwest border in March decreased nearly 94% compared to one year prior; going from 137,743 to 7,181 Additionally, when comparing the numbers between last month and March 2021, the amount of unaccompanied alien children (UACs) that were reported at the Southwest border dropped 97%.
During President Trump’s first 100 days in office, we have begun to clean up the interior by arresting and deporting the illegal aliens dumped here by Joe Biden and Alejandro Mayorkas – but there is much more to be done. Congress is obligated to ensure the border is permanently secured and interior laws are upheld. We must pass laws that codify the Trump Administration’s border security policies.
Medicaid Reform:
It is no secret that Medicaid is not delivering the health care that the American people deserve as there is hardly any evidence that Medicaid is making Americans healthier. For nearly a trillion dollars a year, Americans should expect better – which is exactly why Congress should reform (not cut!) it.
Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion has been a disaster. 60 percent of able-bodied, working-capable adults on Medicaid report no earned income. A third of the growth in Medicaid’s 60-year history was in the last 5 years alone as it has skyrocketed from $409 billion in 2019 to $618 billion in 2024 – an increase of 51% in just five years. Medicaid expenditures have increased by 207% since 2008 (Obama) and is on track to cost the federal government over $1 trillion dollars annually in 2035.
The worst part? Almost a quarter of all Medicaid spending is improper. This is almost $100 billion a year and over $1 trillion dollars over the last decade.
Simply put, Medicaid, on its current path, will help bankrupt the federal government.
