John, In the midst of the fear and sorrow of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen over and over again that we can get through anything if communities come together, even as we try to stay physically apart. It's important to all of us on Team DelBene to acknowledge the heroes who are serving on the front lines of the pandemic -- we owe so much to our health care workers, delivery workers, educators, grocery store workers, and many, many more. So we'd like to make sure you know about a few heroes here in Washington and share their stories, which we received when we asked you to nominate #WAHeroes last month. Today, our #WAHeroes are nurses Patty and Kristen, and Cheri, a middle school teacher. You can read their stories below. If you would like to nominate someone as a #WAHero to be featured in a future email, you can do so here. Patty: "Patty is a nurse at Peters Creek, a retirement community in Redmond. From the first alarms about the virus she has worked tirelessly to care for her residents. Several have died, and she has been exposed numerous times... With little 'overtime' compensation, she stays beyond her shifts to wash and comfort and console. She is extraordinary." Kristen: "Kristen is a nurse at Highline Hospital. She is working in the COVID ICU each day. She endures working in a 'spacesuit' and mask for 12 hours a day. She never complains about the work or dealing with the sickest patients on a daily basis. She feels fortunate to be able to help the patients. She has also adopted 3 special needs kids and takes care of her elderly mom. She is truly a hero in our book." Cheri: "My #WAHero is my mom Cheri. She is a Special Education teacher at Granite Falls Middle School. I have seen her everyday work so hard for her students. School might be in the form of distance learning but my mother isn't giving up. She is trying to provide the highest quality education to this state's most vulnerable students in this hard time. I'm so proud of the work she's doing and how much she cares about her students!" We are so grateful for the work of people like Patty, Kristen, and Cheri -- and we are so grateful for everything you do to help your communities and keep people safe during COVID-19. Together, we can get through this and find a new kind of normal. Stay safe, Suzan PO Box 477, Kirkland, WA 98083
