Celebrating Colorado-Mexico Friendship Day

Governor Polis, Lieutenant Governor Primavera, and Consul General Melendez Cruz pose for a photo with a pair of commemorative skis that read "#Colorado Loves Mexico."

On April 23, I hosted Colorado-Mexico Friendship Day alongside Consul General of Mexico Pavel Meléndez Cruz to celebrate our strong trade, tourism, and cultural partnership.

While President Trump’s tariffs barrel the U.S. toward a recession and raise costs on hardworking Coloradans, I seek to strengthen economic prosperity with Mexico and Canada, Colorado’s largest trading partners. Tariffs are raising costs on hardworking people, businesses, housing, agriculture, manufacturing, and creating uncertainty for businesses. In Colorado, we are doing everything we can to protect our economy, jobs, and our future from these federal tariffs.

Colorado-Mexico Friendship Day was a great opportunity for businesses and Coloradans to celebrate the strong trade partnerships with our allies. This comes after our celebration of Colorado-Canada Friendship Day in March.

Happy Earth Day: Colorado Leading by Example in Environmental Conservation

Governor Polis signs the executive order alongside its supporters at Cherry Creek State Park.

On Earth Day, I signed an Executive Order to create a more sustainable future by advancing state sustainability goals and greening government practices in Colorado. This builds on our plans by setting goals for our state government to cut emissions by half, use energy and water more efficiently, increase the number of electric vehicles in the state fleet, and save taxpayer money by reducing energy costs to our state.

Alongside our conservation-focused state agencies, I also announced the launch of Colorado’s Outdoors Strategy, a statewide vision and framework for action that ensures a future where Colorado’s outdoors, people, community character, and ways of life endure for generations to come.

Continuing to Highlight Educational Excellence in Colorado

Governor Polis stands on the steps of DSST: Cedar High School with a large group of teaching and administrative staff, one of whom is holding the National Blue Ribbon plaque.
Governor Polis listens in a discussion with four high school students in the culinary program at Odyssey Early College.

I visited DSST: Cedar High School in Denver and Odyssey Early College & Career Options in Colorado Springs.

DSST: Cedar High School is one of three schools I visited that won the National Blue Ribbon Award in 2024. I also visited Mesa View Elementary School in Grand Junction and Zach Elementary School in Fort Collins. In Colorado Springs, Odyssey Early College highlighted its dual enrollment efforts to help students earn an associate’s degree, saving students thousands in tuition costs.
