Happy Thursday, Fellow Democrats!
We are now 145 days away from electing a new President of the United States!
“Now is the time for racial justice. That’s the answer we must give to our children when they ask why. Because when there is justice for George Floyd, we will truly be on our way to racial justice in America."
--

BLACK LIVES MATTER
Thank you to the several organizations in our community – Pioneering Change, Black Lives Matter, the Vero Beach Police Department, and the Gifford Historical Museum and Cultural Center - that allowed our residents to rally against police brutality and forcefully bear witness that Black Lives Matter. Now is the time for racial justice. Now is the time for real social and economic change. We cannot retreat. We cannot falter. Nothing worth doing is easy. We all have a responsibility to call out racism and injustice. We all MUST VOTE in 2020 to elect officials who are dedicated to our principles and desire for real change now.

WHAT ARE WE WORKING ON?
This week during our weekly Zoom Precinct Action Committee (PAC) we spent a lot of time strategizing and discussing the next roll out of phone calls. We have been making calls to Warm and New Dems. Those calls are close to being finished. Our next step is to begin making calls to Hot Dems and those left leaning NPA’s. Additionally, there has been a lot of interest in making calls so we discussed having some more training sessions for volunteers. We discussed rolling out an incentive program for our volunteers and hope to have that ready soon!
All of this work would be for nothing if it wasn’t for those who stepped up, went through training and now spend their free time calling fellow IRC Democrats. It’s not easy work, and not everyone is always friendly when you call. But the work is getting done!
This morning we received word from the Supervisor of Elections that in the month of May, 1,390 Democrats have signed up for Vote By Mail! We are definitely making a difference. Thank you volunteers – you rock!
If you are interested in making phone calls or texting, contact the office at [email protected]
DEMOCRATIC WOMEN’S CLUB UPDATE
The Democratic Women’s Club honored four young women graduating from high school this year for their outstanding contribution to the community and scholarly performance: Anika Heuberger (Gallo Scholarship), Keiona Matthews (Barns Scholarship), Dakota Hergeson (Merit Scholarship), and Zoe Palmer (Merit Schoarlship). Each year, the DWC awards these scholarships at the April luncheon. Unfortunately, because of the pandemic it was unable to publicly celebrate these young women’s outstanding merits.
The DWC Board is cautiously planning to resume its monthly luncheons beginning in September. In the meantime, we urge every one of our members to participate in the presidential campaign by becoming involved with the “get out the vote” effort spearheaded by the DEC.
TAKE BACK THE SENATE
While electing a new president is a priority, we cannot forget the importance of taking back the Senate. Below is a graphic highlighting some of those important races. Let’s do what we can to support these Democratic candidates around our country. If you have friends or families in any of these states, please reach out to them and encourage them to vote!
IF YOU HAVEN’T – SIGN UP TO VOTE BY MAIL!!!
If you haven’t signed up to Vote By Mail, go to the Florida Democratic Party website https://fl.dems.vote/mail/ and sign up! The FDP website is keeping track of VBM requests through their online tool and gives us a clearer picture of how many Democrats in Indian River County are signing up. Here is a handy graphic that shows you the benefits of Vote By Mail.
RETURNING CITIZENS
There are many questions surrounding the right to vote for our returning citizens. The NAACP created this tool to help answer those questions. We thought we would share it with you so you could also have a clearer understanding.

We still have Democratic Facemasks! Lovingly made by a fellow Democrat, they are being sold for $10. Contact our office if you want one at: [email protected]

DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS UPDATE
The FDP is continuing to authorize DECs, Clubs and caucuses to meet virtually. However, today, they updated the policy to allow local Democratic party offices to open, if they choose, but the in-person meetings should be implemented using social distancing and business should be conducted swiftly and limited to essential business. The Democrats of Indian River Headquarters will remain closed for in-person meetings within the office space. We will continue to undertake essential activities with Operations Coordinator Stacey Klim on Wednesdays and Fridays 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Democrats coming to the office should knock on the door, social distance, wear a facemask, and provide their own hand sanitizer. Thank you as we continue to look after the safety of our fellow Democrats.
