Last week, I told you that I joined a few of my colleagues from City Council and DPW Director Khalil Zaied to work a shift with a crew of solid waste workers.

It was a powerful reminder of how vital their work is - and how dangerous it can be. The Councilmembers and I wanted you to know what our sanitation workers are facing every day, and why they deserve a raise.

So we wrote this op-ed in the Baltimore Sun to talk about what we learned. Our sanitation workers make less than $45,000 a year, all while putting their bodies on the line for our City.

Fighting for workers like them is one of my biggest priorities. We can’t build the City you deserve if we don’t treat our workers with dignity, give them safe workplaces and better pay.
