John,
In just 100 days, the worst fears about Trump’s second term have come true. This administration is pushing policies that only help Trump’s billionaire class and not the working families in our communities. From attacking our freedoms to gutting the Department of Education, pulling back public health funds, and wrecking our economy with a trade war, it’s worse than we even thought.
But here in Connecticut, Democrats are fighting back at every level.
Reproductive Freedom:
Trump’s allies are pushing for a nationwide abortion ban, but Connecticut passed the Reproductive Freedom Defense Act, protecting patients and providers from out-of-state prosecution related to abortion services.
Public Education:
Trump slashed funding for public schools while pushing private school vouchers, but your CT Dems are investing in universal pre-K, with plans to allocate $300 million to expand access to early childhood education.
Climate Action:
The Trump administration is rolling back clean energy programs and giving handouts to Big Oil. CT Dems have committed to achieving 100% carbon-free electricity by 2040, emphasizing renewable energy sources.
LGBTQ+ Rights:
Trump’s administration is rolling back civil protections and enabling discrimination. CT Dems strengthened non-discrimination laws to protect LGBTQ+ youth and families.
Gun Safety:
The Trump-backed Supreme Court is working to overturn commonsense gun laws. Meanwhile, Connecticut maintains some of the strongest gun safety laws in the nation.
Healthcare:
Trump’s budget proposals have included cuts to Social Security and Medicare. CT Dems are prioritizing lower prescription drug costs and protecting seniors from healthcare cuts.
Combatting Extremism:
Trump has emboldened white nationalists and extremist groups. Hate has no home here, and that’s why we strengthened hate crime laws.
Voting Rights:
Trump’s allies are working to restrict early voting and mail-in ballots. Connecticut approved a constitutional amendment to allow no-excuse absentee voting, expanding access to the ballot.
Workers’ Rights:
Trump’s administration is gutting worker protections and unions. CT Dems raised the minimum wage, and expanded paid family and medical leave benefits.
Here’s the bottom line: The fight is happening right now, and Connecticut Democrats are on the front lines doing the work. And, there’s much more work to do! We need your help to keep up these efforts. [[link removed]]
