It is time our country put a stop to police brutality and hold law enforcement accountable. Black Americans deserve better, and we owe them nothing less than comprehensive and courageous action on this critically important issue.
Earlier this week, Donald joined the Congressional Black Caucus and both House and Senate Democrats to introduce the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. This bill will bring transformative change to our country's policing and help end the epidemic of violence against the Black community.
Among other important reforms, this legislation will:
- ban dangerous practices like chokeholds and no-knock warrants that often lead to deadly use of force;
- limit police department access to military-grade weapons;
- create a federal registry for police misconduct;
- make it easier for citizens to sue police officers for civil rights violations; and
- make federal funding conditional on participation in mandatory racial and implicit bias training for police officers.
There is much more work to do to address the systemic racism that plagues this country, but the Justice in Policing Act of 2020 is a great and necessary start. So please, add your name next to Donald's to become a grassroots co-sponsor and demand immediate action today.
The protests across the nation have made it clear that the American people are demanding this kind of change and accountability now. But we can't lose any momentum -- it's critical each one of us continues to speak out against injustice and shows our support for the policies that will get us one step closer to fulfilling the promise of this great nation.
