Friend, today marks Trump’s first 100 days in office. And if you think it feels more like 100 years have passed, we can’t say we disagree.
As we witness the Trump administration’s relentless attacks on our fundamental rights, it’s clear: Our fight for the media and technology people deserve is facing its most serious threats yet.
We have our work cut out for us — but grassroots donations from supporters like you truly make our work possible. Will&t=1003 you make your first gift to Free Press today? [link removed]
Here are just a few of the terrible things that have happened since Trump took office:
* Media and tech billionaires who gave generously to Trump’s campaign and his inaugural committee took center stage at the inauguration in January, making it clear that they never cared about protecting their users or our democracy.
* FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and the Trump administration are intimidating journalists — threatening to revoke the broadcast licenses of radio and television stations for airing coverage the Trump administration dislikes and launching a sham investigation into public media.
* Elon Musk’s so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” is running roughshod over the U.S. government and your personal data — taking aim at federal agencies and gaining access to an unfathomable stockpile of sensitive personal information like Social Security numbers, as well as Treasury Department systems that control everything from Medicare payments to tax refunds.
* The Trump administration wants to end public media as we know it, proposing to claw back $1.1 billion in already-approved funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
The only way forward is to do everything in our power to defend our democracy and the institutions that many of us rely on for news, information and safe access to our private data. So we have to ask:
Will&t=1006 you make your first gift that goes twice as far today? [link removed]
