Okay history buffs, do you remember this?
“Dr. Franklin, what have we got? A monarchy or a republic?”
“A republic, if you can keep it.”
That is the question Elizabeth Willing Powel asked Ben Franklin, standing outside the Constitutional Convention here in Philadelphia in 1787. I’ve thought a lot about those words over the past 100 days. Dr. Franklin knew then, as we know now: democracy and the rule of law are ideals that we the people must fight to keep.
Here we are in 2025, and Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and their enablers in Congress have set fire to our democratic institutions, targeted our First Amendment freedoms, decimated government services for the most vulnerable, and erased billions in value from Americans’ 401(k)s — all in a matter of weeks.
My colleagues in the GOP have had plenty of time to prove they’re willing to stand up for country over party and stop Trump’s lawless chaos. They’re scared to cross him — but we are not. My friends, we are in the fight of our lifetimes. So I ask you now, can we keep it?
Ahead of Pennsylvania’s primary elections in May, our team set an aggressive fundraising goal to raise an additional $12,000 by midnight tomorrow to help meet this moment. These resources will help my team organize on the ground, support local candidates, invest in digital ads, get out the primary vote, and lay the groundwork for critical wins this cycle.
At town halls across the state, you’ve been asking me how you can be a part of this fight to keep our democracy — this is one big way. Can you chip in to our pro-democracy organizing efforts before it’s too late?
For me, what we’ve got is something too precious to lose. If you’re able, please contribute to the fight to keep our republic free for one and all.
