For decades, law-abiding Americans have been forced to pay a $200 federal tax when purchasing certain firearms regulated under the 1934 National Firearms Act. This cost was originally intended to suppress ownership of certain firearms during the Prohibition era. However, this has become an outdated financial barrier for responsible gun owners, which infringes on their Second Amendment rights. That’s why I’m proud to cosponsor the Repealing Illegal Freedom and Liberty Excises (RIFLE) Act, which would eliminate the antiquated $200 transfer tax on items like short-barreled rifles and suppressors, ensuring lawful gun owners are not penalized for exercising their constitutional freedoms.
