** Port Talbot Gas Club
------------------------------------------------------------
It was fantastic to attend the switch on ceremony of the solar panels at Port Talbot Gas Welfare Club. The Gas Club has been at the heart of the Sandfields East community for 7 decades, and it is great to see the club moving into the new world of solar energy, which is helping to massively reduce the energy bills of the club.
These solar panels mean future generations will get to enjoy this wonderful local club. A huge congratulations to Peter, who does so much for the club and a big thank you to Start Solar UK & Ireland for supporting this club!
** Ysgol Maesteg Criw Cymraeg
------------------------------------------------------------
Diolch yn fawr to Criw Cymraeg at Maesteg School for inviting me to hear about the excellent work students have been doing to promote the Welsh language. The school was the second school in the whole of Bridgend to be awarded the Gold Siarter iaith award for their outstanding contribution to Welsh, in pursuit of the governments 2050 1 million speakers.
I was really impressed to hear that it was students who were the driving force of encouraging the promotion of Welsh, and equally impressed at how the teachers and senior school staff supported the students in this ambition.
It was wonderful to hear Shaney-Lee Tucker perform Dacw fy nghariad and Thomas Lewis reciting Y Llyfrgell, as well as hearing about the groups podcast, community outreach, coffee mornings and Christmas campaign!
** Cornelly Walking Football Club
------------------------------------------------------------
I really enjoyed joining the guys at Cornelly Walking Football this month. It definitely took me a while to get my head around not being allowed to run, but once you get the hang of it, it’s a fantastic game (and just as tiring as standard 5 a side!)
** Richard Burton 10K Awards Presentation
------------------------------------------------------------
It was great to be at the Richard Burton 10k presentation evening, where the RB10k charity awards financial support to a range of worthy causes in the Cwmavon community, and also to the volunteer organisations who do so much to help make the race happen.
Huge thanks once again to Shaun and Anna Tobin and the entire RB10k team for their hard work, dedication and passionate commitment to the community.
** Pension Credit Advice Day in Cwmafan
------------------------------------------------------------
This month I held my sixth Pension Credit Advice Day in the constituency.
I wrote to every pensioner in Cwmafan, Bryn, Pontrhydyfen and Ton Mawr and invited them to come and check their eligibility for Pension Credit, as well as other help they may have been missing out on, including attendance allowance and help with utilities.
Thanks to all who came and for Cwmafan Community Centre to having us.
** Celtic Credit Union Mobile Banking Unit
------------------------------------------------------------
I was really pleased to attend the launch of the Celtic Credit Union’s mobile banking branch. With this new mobile banking branch, the Celtic Credit Union will bring banking and financial services to communities across Neath Port Talbot County Borough weekly.
Celtic Credit Union will shortly be sharing the schedule of the areas this mobile banking branch will visit, so keep an eye out!
** NPT Mayor's Citizen Awards
------------------------------------------------------------
It was wonderful to attend the Mayor of Neath Port Talbot's Citizens Awards ceremony in Margam, where lots of local people, groups and organisations received awards from the Mayor, recognising the work they do for our local community.
Well done to everyone who was given an award for the fantastic work you do for our County Borough.
** Afan Valley Bike Trails
------------------------------------------------------------
I met with Natural Resources Wales to discuss the Afan Valley Bike Trails this month.
People will know that the Afan Valley mountain bike tracks, which are some of the best in Europe, if not the world, have been closed for quite a while because of issues with the need to fell the trees.
I'm absolutely delighted to say that some of these trails are now open again. They're such an asset to our local area.
I encourage everybody to come, bring your bike (or get one from Afan Valley Bike Shed) and enjoy the cycle trails!
** National Press
------------------------------------------------------------
This month I took part in a variety of national media interviews from my Water Street office, to talk about everything from steel to the economy.
This included speaking to Good Morning Britain, LBC, Times Radio, Sky News, ITV and more.
** Advice Surgeries
------------------------------------------------------------
I held advice surgeries in Glyncorrwg and Llangynwyd this month.
I spoke to constituents about a range of topics and helping them to resolve issues they were having on everything from wildlife management to issues with benefits and a whole range of others too.
