Dear Friend,

Across the globe, Black people are fighting for their right to live safe from harm and violence inflicted on us by police. While the CPD Network has been working on this issue for years, our movement has generated overwhelming momentum to #DefundPolice over the past three weeks, and we’ve had big wins. This week, we saw New York lawmakers repeal 50-A, making police disciplinary records available to the public. On Sunday, a veto-proof majority of the Minneapolis City Council announced its plans to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department and invest in community-driven approaches to public safety. And, two weeks ago, activists got Milwaukee Public Schools to divest $100,000 from its contract with the police department. These are victories that to some seemed like a pipe dream last year, or even last month. And we can’t stop now.

[ ]([link removed]) SUPPORT THE FIGHT FOR BLACK LIVES

At this very moment, the CPD network of affiliates and allies are on the frontlines, organizing with their communities to #DefundPolice and win investment in their communities, and we’re seeing results: more and more elected officials across the country are heeding the call to divest from policing and invest those funds in what Black communities need—quality health care and education, public housing and community-driven approaches to public safety that actually keep us safe.

We are working to build a world where everyone has the freedom to thrive and, right now, we are on the brink of transforming America’s justice system. [Will you contribute $25 to fight to win transformative justice for our communities?]([link removed])

We couldn’t have come this far without supporters like you, and now more than ever, we must fight together to defend Black life and end systemic racism and white supremacy in our country.

In solidarity,

Jennifer Epps-Addison
Network President & Co-Executive Director, CPD
