I sued to stop Trump and the U.S. Department of Education from withholding $7.9 billion from California’s schools.
President Trump’s Department of Education is threatening to withhold federal funding from states that refuse to end diversity, equity, and inclusion programs designed to promote equal access to education in our nation’s schools.
So last week, I filed my 15th lawsuit against this administration to fight back.

The Trump administration is holding $7.9 BILLION hostage from California children and schools unless state and local agencies terminate lawful efforts to ensure equal access to education for all of our students.
This is yet another illegal power grab by Trump to cut funding that was already approved by Congress. With this order, Trump and Secretary Linda McMahon are abandoning our kids.
If Trump gets his way, our state could lose billions in funding that pays for:
- Financial support to ensure that students from low-income families have the same access to high-quality education as their peers;
- Special education services for students with disabilities;
- Recruitment and training of highly skilled and dedicated teachers;
- Programming for non-native speakers to learn English;
- Support for vulnerable children in foster care and without housing.
This is an attack on our children and yet another attempt by Trump and his administration to break the law.
That’s why I took urgent action and filed a lawsuit last Friday to stop this. If you have my back, can you pitch in $5 to our people-powered campaign so I can stay focused on fighting these threats to California’s children?
