Public Charge policy threatens stability of American families The Trump administration's new "public charge" rule will deny access to lawful permanent resident status for immigrants who use or may be likely to use public programs for which they are eligible that help provide necessities like food, housing, and health care. “The new public charge rule closes the door to lawful status for immigrants, punishes people for being poor and forces families to make decisions no person should have to make," said NIJC's Executive Director Mary Meg McCarthy. NIJC is banding together with organizations locally and nationally to fight against this rule and to protect families. | |
