This week, I want to provide some updates on the work my fellow Senators and I are doing to reform our criminal justice system as well as some information on Phase 2 of reopening the Commonwealth.

Friends,

When we think about the world we want to see — a just, equal world — we have the responsibility to be a part of the change.

Over the last few weeks, tens of thousands of people, from coast to coast, have participated in protests to demand an end to police brutality and an end to police killings of Black men and women.

The June 2 march in Richmond

This weekend, I was proud to join protests and marches in the district. In Powhatan, Chesterfield, and the City of Richmond, I joined peaceful anti-racism rallies that allowed people to share their commitment to a more just society. The words of the speakers were powerful, and even more meaningful were the faces of those who gathered, reflecting the diversity that is our Commonwealth and country.

Conversation on criminal justice and racial equity
The calls for justice are ringing around the world, and we must each play our part to forge forward and build a better tomorrow. Tonight I will be joining my fellow Virginia Senators for a discussion on how we can work together to reform our criminal justice system and ensure racial equity for all residents of the Commonwealth.

Updates on reopening the Commonwealth
Most of Virginia has moved into Phase 2 of reopening after stay at home orders have been lifted by the Governor. Northern Virginia and Richmond remain in Phase 1 but will enter Phase 2 tomorrow (Friday, June 12).

Here are the guidelines for Phase 2 as your community begins to lift restrictions:

  • Stay at home recommendations still remain for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing conditions.
  • Social gatherings should consist of no more than 50 people.
  • As we reopen public businesses, parks, and restaurants, we should all continue practicing social distancing when possible.
  • Those who are able should also continue teleworking to decrease crowding and help maintain social distancing.
  • Face coverings are still highly recommended in public spaces.
  • More business will be reopening on a rolling basis as Governor Northam eases business limitations.

Increased capacity for, and availability of, COVID-19 testing is vital to keep Virginians safe and healthy. CVS Health is now offering self-swab tests at many locations — please contact the CVS location near you for more details. Here are the locations across District 10:

  • CVS Pharmacy, 13180 Midlothian Turnpike, Midlothian, VA 23113
  • CVS Pharmacy, 8820 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23294
  • CVS Pharmacy, 5001 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23230
  • CVS Pharmacy, 8811 Forest Hill Road, Richmond, VA 23235
  • CVS Pharmacy, 5001 Forest Hills Avenue, Richmond, VA 23225

  • CVS Pharmacy, 8121 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, VA 23236
